French Braid variation
Here is a variation on a French braid where I added only small pieces to a single braid. Very pretty.

French and Dutch braids
One standard has been 2 French braids. Personally, I prefer Dutch braids, but Heather thinks she gets more fly-aways with the Dutch braids. We have been asked before if the Dutch braids were fake- I think that turned her off too!
This last picture is 2 Dutch braids wrapped into a bun, held in place with Heather's silver and turquoise comb.

The header for this blog currently contains this picture of 2 French ropes joining at the nape of the neck in a bun. It had been a long time since I had attempted French ropes, and I had never been pleased with the outcome of a single, so I tried doubles. I twisted the individual strands opposite the head so that I would twist the rope itself toward the head. This worked very well. I continued the ropes to the end of the hair. Because the ropes twisted opposite directions, I was able to make 1 large rope, which I then twisted into a bun and secured with pins.
Through the Ages
This is a picture of Heather as we were leaving for Germany. We had already begun growing her hair out, but it is still very short. This was March 2005.
This is Heather with her hair braided sometime in 2007. The French braids make it look shorter, so it is probably a couple inches longer than it looks here.
This is a 5-strand Dutch braid done at the Renaissance festival in 2007.
This is a custom up-do done at the Renaissance Festival in early 2009.
This is a picture of Heather's incredible lengths of hair taken in spring 2009.
